MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Eric R. Burch

This past year has proven to be very successful for Lewis County General Hospital/Residential Health Care Facility.  We have made many improvements throughout the facilities, including the expansion of services and the acquisition of new state-of-the art equipment. Utilization of both inpatient and outpatient services has grown considerably in most areas, due in part to our increased market share in Lewis, Jefferson, Oneida, St. Lawrence, Herkimer and Hamilton Counties.

Our workforce has expanded by 33 full time equivalents (FTEs) during the past year in an effort to meet the needs of our growing utilization.  As a result of the volume growth, we have seen a revenue increase of approximately 15.25% or $5.9M over our 2007 revenue, which averages out to a $179,534 revenue growth per additional FTE.

We were also most successful in our regulatory surveys by the Joint Commission and New York State Department of Health, with positive surveys being completed in the hospital, nursing home, radiology and laboratory.

We look forward to 2009, which will provide us an even greater opportunity for enhancing and improving the services we provide.  We will also be looking at new opportunities, which will continue to make our facility a leader in healthcare. Thanks to the hard work and high quality care provided by our staff, LCGH/RHCF is quickly becoming known as The Healthcare Facility of Choice in the North Country.

Healthcare is also a large part of the economy with over 450 people being employed by the hospital and nursing home.  LCGH/RHCF is a modern 54 bed acute care and 160 bed long term care facility.  We are a constantly growing rural health center that offers programs and services usually found only at larger facilities in bigger cities.
