Resource Department Registered Nurse (RN Rates - $37.32-46.65)
Position Requirements:
Graduated with a bachelor’s in nursing degree with current licensure as a registered nurse. One year’s experience as an RN.
Professional Requirements:
Pursues programs of continuing education. Participated in educational conferences and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibilities.
Holds certification in basic life support. The employer will provide further certifications as needed such as advanced life support, pediatric advanced life support, advanced stroke life support, neonatal resuscitation, fetal heart monitoring, EKG interpretation, and emergency severity index triage system.
Position Accountable to:
Nurse Manager, Nurse, Supervisor, Chief Nursing Officer, the patient and family.
Position Summary:
The Resource nurse position is designed to fill workforce gaps in long term assignments within the acute care setting including emergency department. The resource nurse supports the acute care and emergency department by filling a vital role utilizing the nursing process to independently deliver nursing care to patient to achieve quality outcomes while receiving guidance/supervision based on leader and self-assessment of opportunities for skill enhancement.
The resource nurse performs the primary functions of a RN in the care of patients. They must practice at a level of competency to meet the following departmental requirements:
· Performs the primary functions of a RN in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients on the unit. Is responsible for meeting the established Standards of Nursing Practice, for managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit, and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments.
· Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide a high level of nursing care in units to which assigned.
· Assesses patient's condition based upon observation, examination, and/or interview, physician's diagnosis, laboratory findings, age-related issues, and other pertinent information.
· Completes assessment in specified time frame. Identifies and consistently recognizes changes in normal and abnormal parameters in the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental, and spiritual needs.
· Implements nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.
· Evaluates and documents patients' response to nursing care and modifies or revises treatment plans, and/or contacts physicians as circumstances require.
· Participates in interdisciplinary patient care planning and evaluates patient progression in preparation for safe discharge.
· Identifies and completes assessments of patient (family) educational needs. Provides education consistent with patient's level of understanding using existing resources based on diagnosis, treatment plan or prescribed medical regimen.
· Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize and execute the patient's plan of care consistent with patient assessment data and physician's treatment plans and professional standards of evidence-based practice/care.
· Incorporates the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs into the plan of care.
· Follows patient care and facility guidelines and procedures in performance of one's duties consistently.
· Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing patient's plan of care, provides guidance, and immediately intervenes with deviation standards of care.
· Follows polices and protocol when administering medications, starting intravenous fluids and blood products.
· Performs both complex and routine treatments as prescribed by physicians, approved nursing protocols that align with clinical assessment of patient's condition.
· Works closely with the Nurse Manager to ensure that all budgetary, Process Improvement, Core Measures and Patient Satisfaction initiatives are achieved.
· Recognizes the importance of being a professional role model for others.
Is knowledgeable of all equipment to include but not limited to: Infusion pump, feeding pump, telemetry, oxygen equipment including CPAP and BiPAP, EKG machine, compression machine, electric beds, isolettes, infant intensive care bassinets, safe patient handling equipment, fetal heart monitor, sterile trays, adult and newborn crash cart contents, dinamaps, phototherapy, cardiac monitors, defibrillation equipment, pacemakers and ventilators.
Is deemed competent in completing a comprehensive health assessment and is accountable for the delivery of quality nursing care for all ages, including pediatric, adult, geriatric, pre-partum, labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery care.
Interprets heart patterns on monitor and assesses changes in pattern while possessing the ability to respond to abnormal cardiac rhythms.

Ability to utilize hospital computerized electronic medical system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing and one year’s experience as an RN.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS:
Possession of a current valid license issued by the State of New York Education Department to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse at time of appointment.
