Senior Food Service Helper ($20.47 - $25.99) Casual
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for leading LCHS’s evening dietary team. This includes oversite of approximately 10 team members while ensuring quality meals are served to all patients and residents each meal. The evening shift typically ends by 8pm daily. The start time of this shift is flexible between 12pm and 4pm. This position requires work on weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed. Duties include but are not limited to: Assisting with employee scheduling, Leading/coordinating daily tasks of the dietary team, ensuring high quality meals at the correct consistency are served to each patient and resident., Monitoring food temps for both hot and cold holding, and knowledge and use of computer systems. Has responsible charge of the preparation and serving of food and cleaning functions in a hospital kitchen and/or dining areas during a meal or on an assigned shift. Does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is an important supervisory position involving responsibility for overseeing the correct preparation and serving of food to hospital patients and employees and for insuring cleanliness of the dining areas. Work is performed under direct supervision of a qualified Dietitian with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over the work of a number of subordinate Food Service Helpers.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
· Oversees, supervises and inspects the preparation of patient food trays;
· Assigns subordinate food service personnel to various cleaning and food service tasks;
· Oversees and insures that special patient diet menus are followed in the food service operation on an assigned shift;
· Responsible for the proper training of subordinate dietary staff;
· Calls substitute food service personnel as required;
· Takes daily patient count;
· Adds and subtracts admissions and discharges for following day meal projections;
· Keeps track of new admissions, special diet menus and related food service records;
· Is responsible to insure that cooking utensils, ranges, coolers and store rooms are kept up to proper hospital cleanliness standards;
· Assists in preparation of special diet sandwiches under direction of the Dietitian;
· Fills orders for supplemental nourishment carts for patients;
· Prepares records and reports as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the proper methods of large-scale food service in a hospital, including special diets; good knowledge of the proper and sanitary care of tableware, glassware, silver, and kitchen appliances; ability to supervise and train employees; ability to follow oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience as a Food Service Helper in an institution, restaurant or hotel; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
