stores clerk ($15.75-$20.44)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Does all general stores work, relating to supplies, such as the receipt, storage, issue, and distribution of.  Does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is responsible clerical work involving overseeing the maintenance of designated main and sub-inventories.  The stock handled includes a variety of hospital supply items of considerable value.  Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative official with the incumbent responsible for the application of proper stores keeping methods and the maintenance of accurate and complete records.  Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate personnel.  Assists Director in day-to-day activities as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

·  Receives, stores and issues materials, supplies and small equipment;

·  Maintains inventories of stock on hand and prepares requisitions for replenishment;

·  Checks quantity and quality of stocks received against purchase orders or requisitions to see that they conform to orders or specifications;

·  Develops efficient stores methods, in allocation of proper bins or storage place assignments;

·  Maintains a variety of control records for supplies received and issued, and makes reports as required;

·  Edits and processes departmental requisitions;

·  Performs database maintenance tasks as directed;

·  Performs inventory management and restocking of department sub-inventories;

·  Prepares and packs goods for shipping or delivery and makes transportation arrangements;

·  Makes out discrepancy reports on shortages, damaged goods, or over-shipments;

·  Assists staff members in supply requisition preparation;

·  Performs a variety of related clerical, stores-keeping and routine cleaning of stores;

·  Assists Director as needed in analyzing trends in the market place;

·  Assists Director in the buying of supplies as needed;

· Recommends to the Director ideas or procedures that will possibly enhance materials management.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of methods and practices used in receiving and storing supplies, equipment and materials; working knowledge of inventory control methods and procedures; working knowledge of office automation to include personal computers, bar code scanners, and related accessories; ability to maintain systematic stock keeping records; ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to bend, climb and stand for extended periods; ability to lift heavy weights and move bulky supplies and equipment; ability to read and use a variety of supply catalogs and manuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Either:

A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience involved in the keeping of stores, supplies and related records; or

B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience involved in preparing, recording and maintaining records in a hospital setting; or

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined in (A) and (B) above.
